What makes a successful marriage? After 48 years Ethel and Norman should know. As they return to their summer home in New England for the 48th year, Ethel and Norman embark on a different kind of summer. Presented with their daughter's fiancé's son Ethel and Norman gain the Grandchild they always wanted. However, their latest adventure throws up family issues which have been deeply buried, until now.
Written by Ernest Thompson in 1979 the original production, first presented off-Broadway, has gone onto a run on Broadway, a revival in 2005, a national tour and a full-length film in 1981. Both the original and revival productions have won awards with the total amount being three Tony Awards and five Drama Desk Awards.
